From 21 to 28 June 2026, Grado will host the Isola del Sole International Open, a prestigious chess tournament that will bring players from Italy and abroad to the island for a week of competition, strategy and camaraderie.
The event will take place at the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology of the Upper Adriatic, at Via dei Provveditori 14, in the heart of Grado’s historic centre.
The event offers a unique opportunity to combine a passion for chess with a seaside holiday: a week of games, beaches, sunsets, culture and fine dining in one of the most charming resorts on the Adriatic.
The tournaments
The Isola del Sole International Open comprises three different tournaments:
Master (rating above 1900 Elo)
Challengers (rating between 1700 and 1999 Elo)
Amateurs (rating below 1700 Elo)
The tournament will be played using the Swiss system with REP, Buchholz Cut 1 and ARO tiebreaks.
The time control will be 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from the first move.
Città di Grado Trophy
On Wednesday 24 June at 6.00 pm, the traditional Città di Grado Trophy is scheduled, a Blitz tournament with a time control of 3 minutes + 2 seconds per move.
