Venue: Basilica di Santa Eufemia - Campo Patriarca Elia
Sunday 18 October 2026, at 4.00 pm, the evocative setting of the Basilica of Saint Euphemia in Grado will host a concert of sacred music featuring a performance of Shane Woodborne’s “Rohrauer Messe”, for flute orchestra and choir.
The work was composed to mark the bicentenary of the death of Johann Michael Haydn, the younger brother of the famous composer Franz Joseph Haydn. A musician active chiefly in Salzburg, Michael Haydn distinguished himself through his output of sacred and instrumental music and worked within the same musical milieu in which the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was trained.
Shane Woodborne dedicated the Rohrauer Messe to this important figure in the history of music; it was first performed in 2007 in Rohrau, the birthplace of the Haydn brothers, from which the composition takes its name.
The concert will feature various local choral and musical groups, coordinated by the Lorenzo Perosi Choir of Fiumicello Villa Vicentina, who will come together to offer the audience an afternoon dedicated to the great tradition of sacred music.
