It all began in the second half of the 19th century, when doctors certified the healing properties of balneotherapy and heliotherapy, attracting many aristocrats from all over Europe to the equipped beaches, which became a pleasant place for pleasure and recreation. For this reason, the profession of beach attendant is also an ancient one, linked to the birth of tourism, first exclusive and then mass, which reached its peak in the 1960s. These workers dedicated their lives to the sea and the beach, attentive to the needs of bathers, providing them with assistance, setting up sunshades and later umbrellas, positioning them to alleviate the heat, and also taking care of sandblasting, or psammotherapy, a spa treatment that was highly recommended for joint and rheumatic conditions. Through the summer hits of the beautiful songs of the economic boom years, this show will attempt to recall what was then the tiring but valuable work of the lifeguards at our beaches.
