‘Profondo Presente’ is open from Monday 12 October, with a special afternoon opening from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm, and during the museum’s usual opening hours (Friday to Sunday 11.00am-6.00pm from 1 October to 30 April, and Tuesday to Sunday 11.00am-7.00pm from 1 May to 30 September).

‘Profondo Presente’ brings together two ‘giants’ of the Upper Adriatic: the Roman ship Iulia Felix, on display on the first floor of the museum, and the whale Boralena, whose skeleton is being presented in its entirety to the public for the first time. The exhibition, characterised by evocative immersive effects and enriched with multimedia content, expands the museum’s visitor experience with new content dedicated to the sea and the species that inhabit it, highlighting how underwater research is interdisciplinary and represents an extraordinary field of study for learning about our past and understanding the transformations currently taking place in the marine ecosystem.

The exhibition project, coordinated by Elena Braidotti (MNAS Grado) and Lisa Peratoner (AMP Miramare), is enhanced by the art installation Blue Life by Elisabetta Milan, which offers a contemporary interpretation of the exhibition’s theme, symbolically linking Boralena and the Iulia Felix. The exhibition space was designed and fitted out by Divulgando Srl of Trieste, which also oversaw the multimedia installations. The art installation was made possible thanks to the valuable contribution of the patrons who participated in the project through the Ministry of Culture’s Art Bonus scheme: Ludovica Prearo LuP, Preco System Srl, Hotel Savoy in Grado, Ocean Team Srl, K.F.L. EST Srl and CBS EST Srl.
