Domenico and Costanza, a husband and wife who are ‘separated but close’, face the transition to old age with contrasting attitudes: she, impulsive and visionary, wants to turn it into the most precious time of her life; he, more level-headed and ironic, tries to keep up with her, amidst bursts of vitality and unexpected twists. In a comic and affectionate game of role reversals, the pair challenge conventions, roles and certainties, supported by an incredulous son and a young, engaged female audience member.
Based on the novel by Lidia Ravera, this is a tender and unsettling comedy about the time we have left and what we choose to make of it, about what can still be brought back into play when it seems too late: energy, affection, desires, stubbornness. The humour comes with a twist and springs from a vital melancholy, entrusted to performers capable of blending irony and fragility, poetry and awkwardness, and of bringing to life deeply human, contradictory and recognisable characters.
