Desplante

Accompanied by singer Pilar Sierra Villar and guitarist Victor Franco Gutierrez, Eduardo Guerrero presents the dance, song and music recital with which he won first prize at the Festival de las Minas de La Unión Mines in 2013.

Venue: Auditorium Biagio Marin, Via Marchesini, 31 - Grado

Friday 9 January - At 8.45 pm

Desplante is intended as a tribute to minero-levantinos songs, a style of flamenco that developed in the 19th century in the mountains of Cartagena (La Unión), following the large migrations of people from Andalusia. It is an art form that originated with miners, conveying the suffering and “quejíos” (laments) of everyday life in the mines.

An intimate show, full of power and drama, in which Guerrero reviews different styles of flamenco, from the pure, unadorned form to some contemporary variations, reinterpreted by the bailor from Cadiz with a very personal aesthetic that embodies the very essence of flamenco dance.

Eduardo Guerrero González (Cadiz, 1983) began dancing at Carmen Guerrero's school when he was only six years old, where he laid the foundations of flamenco, then continuing to work with masters of the stature of Mario Maya, Antonio Canales and Manolo Marín. He studied Spanish dance at the Cadiz Dance Conservatory and subsequently expanded his knowledge of classical and contemporary dance.

In 2002, he began working with leading artists on the national scene, who recognised and appreciated his qualities, physical ability and refined technique. This recognition

led Guerrero to become a leading performer in productions by the companies of Aida Gómez, Eva Yerbabuena and Rocío Molina, in the Spanish National Ballet and also at the court of Javier Latorre and Rafael Aguilar.

In 2011, after winning first prize in the Professional Conservatories Choreography Competition with his choreography Mayo, Eduardo founded his own company, staging numerous shows and winning numerous awards such as the Desplante Prize at the Festival de las Minas de la Unión (2013); “Gaditano of the Year” (2016), the Audience Award at the Festival de Jerez with the show Guerrero (2017); the Pata Negra Award (2018), the Fiver Award at the Internacional Dance Film Festival, with Symphony of the Body (2019), the ‘Gaditano del año’ Award in Cádiz, (2021), the Lorca Intérprete Masculino Danza Flamenca Award (2022), the Ayuntamiento de Almería Award (2023) and FECACE y Junta Andalucía (2023).

In recent years, Eduardo has been committed to researching new projects that combine his previous creations, exploring different concepts in the world of dance to move away from fixed conventions and experimenting with new performances in the field of plastic and visual arts, as in the work Sombra Efímera, which he presented with a preview of the first part at the Bienal de Flamenco in Seville in 2018 inside a bubble created by the architectural firm Plastique Fantastique.
