ALTRI LINGUAGGI
"... with its great cultural differences over thousands of years, starting from ancient Rome, where people from all over the empire lived, passing through the dominations that followed until the birth of the nation, and arriving at the immigrations of our days, Italy has sublimated its diversities, constituting a great artistic and cultural heritage that is unique in the world".
Mvula Sungani
Sabir, is the new choreographic work by the Italian-African director and choreographer Mvula Sungani, featuring the international ètoile Emanuela Bianchini accompanied by the soloists of Mvula Sungani Physical Dance and the composer and multi-instrumentalist Erasmo Petringa.
The new work, visual and abstract, wants to stimulate a reflection in the audience, which need not necessarily give immediate answers, but should provide some elements to encourage the idea that legal and healthy integration can represent a wealth, exactly as it happened more than 1000 years ago among the sailors of many countries who, in order to interact in the Mediterranean ports, felt the need to create a common lingua franca: the Sabir.
The creation takes its cue from the inclusive philosophy of the lingua franca and emphasises the theme of integration between different ethnic groups through the tales and stories of immigrants and emigrants. The key to interpretation is the parallel between today's Italy, a destination of immigrants and hopes, as the dramatic daily chronicles report, and that of the early 1900s, when it was Italians who left with expectations of a better life. Sungani's work, which also draws inspiration from the stories and history of his own family, is a metaphorical reading of the past and present of our nation, an emotive tale of the past and present of our country.
present of our nation, an emotional and visual tale about the integration of cultures far removed from our own people, a project not to forget who we were, who we are and - perhaps - who we would like or at least should be.
The choreographic dramaturgy, which in emotional abstractionism evokes stories of common women and men, uses physical dance as its language and is articulated in pictures in which intense and evocative textures enhance the sculptural bodies of the dancers and blend them with the interpretative power of the original music performed live.
