The Sardelada of the Bearers of the Madonna

On the occasion of the feast of the patron saints SS. Ermacora and Fortunato, the Association of Bearers of the Madonna of Barbana organises the traditional Sardelada.

Venue: Campo Patriarca Elia, Grado

The Sardelada, also known as the Festival of the Patron Saints or Midsummer Festival, is one of the most eagerly awaited events of July in Grado. Organised by the Bearers of the Madonna of Barbana, it takes place in the picturesque setting of Campo Patriarca Elia and is a celebration that is deeply felt by the local community, attracting numerous visitors every year.

The stars of the event are sardele, sardines, the fish that symbolises Grado's seafaring tradition and a key ingredient in typical Grado cuisine.

During the Sardelada, you can taste them in various preparations that tell the story and authentic flavours of the lagoon: preserved in salt and oil, breaded and fried, “in savor”, or “scotadeo”, cooked in a pan after being washed only with sea water.

Amidst the aromas of cooking, conviviality and summer atmosphere, the Sardelada is a special opportunity to experience Grado in a genuine way, rediscovering its maritime roots and strong links with local gastronomic tradition.

Dates: 10, 11, 12; 24, 25, 26 July 2026.
