Already well-known and highly regarded during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Grado Marine Spa has built its history around thalassotherapy, a practice that uses seawater and the resources of the marine environment for personal healing and wellbeing.
Today, this tradition is combined with an approach that brings together spa treatments, preventive medicine, exercise and wellness treatments, in a refurbished centre overlooking the sea and dedicated to wellbeing all year round.
The Grado Marine Method
The Grado Marine Method stems from the fusion of the tradition of thalassotherapy with a personalised approach to health and prevention. The method integrates Grado’s natural resources with medical expertise, physiotherapy, physical activity and treatments dedicated to wellbeing, to guide each individual along a programme tailored to their specific needs.
The spa’s offering is structured around five areas:
Clinical thalassotherapy, featuring seawater baths, inhalation therapies and hydrokinesitherapy;
Preventive medicine and longevity, with personalised assessments and programmes;
Kinesitherapy and movement, for prevention, rehabilitation and the maintenance of physical function;
Halotherapy and regeneration, with treatments and environments dedicated to relaxation and respiratory wellbeing;
Marine beauty and wellness, with face and body treatments inspired by the sea.

Terme Marine offers six personalised programmes that combine, according to individual needs, treatments, movement, physiotherapy and prevention:

At the Terme Marine di Grado, the tradition of thalassotherapy combines with a range of services dedicated to personal care and wellbeing. Seawater, drawn from offshore and heated, is used for spa treatments, inhalation therapies and rehabilitation programmes.
Balneotherapy and ozone baths
Baths in heated seawater, enriched with ozone, recommended for certain rheumatic and dermatological conditions. Treatment courses are also available under the National Health Service scheme for the specified conditions.Inhalation treatments
Aerosols, inhalations, nebulisations and micronised showers using heated seawater, for the treatment of certain respiratory conditions. Inhalation treatments are also available under the National Health Service scheme for the specified conditions.Physiotherapy and rehabilitation
The physiotherapy department offers individual and group hydrokinesitherapy in the thermal pools, as well as manual and instrumental treatments, including massage therapy, lymphatic drainage, motor and respiratory rehabilitation, Tecar therapy and laser therapy.Medical Centre
The spa has a multidisciplinary medical centre. Before starting treatment, a pre-admission medical examination is required to determine the most suitable course of treatment for the individual’s needs.
Treatments covered by the National Health Service
The Terme Marine di Grado is affiliated with the SSN for courses of ozone baths and inhalation treatments. To access these treatments, a red prescription from your GP, paediatrician or an SSN specialist is required, stating the diagnosis, the course of treatment and any exemption code. Booking is compulsory and the initial medical consultation is included in the NHS-funded treatment programme. It is generally possible to receive one NHS-funded treatment programme per calendar year, subject to the exceptions provided for protected categories.
The patient contribution is €55.00; for those partially exempt, the fee is €3.10, subject to regulatory changes. Treatments can also be undertaken privately, subject to booking and an admission medical examination.
Opening hours, information and bookings
Spa treatments: Monday to Saturday, approximately from 8.30 am to 3.00 pm, with check-in by 2.00 pm. Closed on Sundays and public holidays. Opening hours may vary seasonally.
The Thermal Pool features two pools filled with heated seawater, so you can enjoy the pleasures of seawater even in the cooler months. The swimming pool has a gradually increasing depth and a water temperature of approximately 31 °C. The second pool, which is slightly smaller, is heated to around 32 °C and is equipped with a whirlpool system around the edge. The pool also hosts individual and group water-based activities, including aqua aerobics, pain-relief exercises, hydrokinesis and physio-Pilates.
