The Birth of Tourist Grado

The Birth of Tourist Grado

“The great miracle of the sand, the sea and the lagoon of Grado.”

More than a century has passed (1900) since the well was drilled in Piazza dell’Acquedotto tha provided the people of Grado with drinking water. From that period onwards people began to talk about a “tourist” Grado, or of “the great miracle of the sand, the sea and the lagoon of Grado,” which gave life to what we know today as the Marine Thermal Baths of Grado.

The lustre of the great Austro-Hungarian empire and its nobility dramatically increased the prestige of the small sea citadel, which previously had noble ties with the great Maritime Republic of Venice.
