Famous people and places in Grado: Franco Battiato

During the 6 months of the "Grado130" exhibition, come and discover the most significant figures in the history of Grado, in the town's landmarks:

Franco Battiato (23 marzo 1945 – 18 maggio 2021)

"Ho fatto scalo a Grado / La domenica di Pasqua / Gente per le strade / Correva andando a messa

L'aria carica d'incenso / Alle pareti le stazioni del calvario / Gente fintamente assorta/ Che aspettava la redenzione dei peccati"

Grado has the privilege of being mentioned in the title of one of the lamented Maestro Franco Battiato's songs, namely 'Scalo a Grado', from the album 'L'arca di Noè' of 1982. A song that in its own way describes participation in the Easter rite, emphasising people's attention to formalisms rather than the Christian behaviour one should have.

The song was sung by the author himself during a concert held in Grado on a 'Sunday in July' in 2003, and as a tribute to that title and to the Island of the Sun, the famous singer Morgan opened his concert in 2018 with a personal version of Battiato's song.

But Battiato's bond with Grado has continued over the years, so much so that its seascape was the protagonist in 2019 of the cover of the single 'Torneremo ancora', thanks to a photo of the low tide on the Costa Azzurra beach taken by Francesco Messina.

"La vita non finisce, è come il sonno, la nascita è come il risveglio finché non saremo liberi torneremo ancora e ancora e ancora."
