Established in 1996, the Duino Cliffs Reserve covers 107 hectares in a restricted area where it is possible to observe the transition from the average European to the Mediterranean biogeographical domain, with a high degree of biodiversity; the typical flora of this area includes black pines, holm oaks, hornbeams, canine cherry trees and kartschian Centaurea, an endemic plant with pink-purple flowers. The fauna is composed of reptiles (lizards, vipers and snakes), solitary sparrow, gull, peregrine falcon and raven.
Currently there is no visitor center and admission to the reserve is free.
The Rilke Trail:
The path named after the Bohemian poet Rainer Maria Rilke, who stayed for a period at the Castle of Duino, guest of the Thurn und Taxis family, was inaugurated in 1987 and allows you to reach Sistiana da Duino, within the Nature Reserve of the Duino Cliffs. The trail is almost flat
